The Orchids to Olives approach to reviews
Places are chosen with midlife solo women and women living with chronic health conditions in mind. Every place is considered by how easy it is to rest, recharge and let the nervous system settle. Practical things matter too: accessibility, comfort, safety, noise, food, and how physically demanding a place is.
Reviews are based on personal experience, so what works for one person may not work for everyone. The aim is to give you enough information to decide whether a place might work for you too.

Why I chose a solo wellness retreat in the Czechia
My reason for going was simple: I wanted to relax, focus on my wellbeing and spend time in nature.
I wanted a break from city life, without having to organise much, somewhere I could slow down, enjoy the natural landscape and make time for myself. Svata Katerina ticked all those boxes.
I stayed for four nights, from Monday to Friday in June.
Getting to Svata Katerina from Prague and Brno
Svata Katerina is about 130 km from Prague and about 130 km from Brno. An airport transfer service is available at an extra cost.
If you drive, like I did, on arrival, you park your car in a nearby car park 3 km away from and take the retreat’s shuttle bus into the grounds, as cars aren’t permitted on the premises.
For me this felt symbolic, as though I was leaving everyday life behind.
Svata Katerina grounds, design and atmosphere
Svata Katerina feels completely immersed in nature. From various points around the property, there are expansive views across the surrounding green countryside, with numerous forest paths to explore.
I loved this aspect of the retreat.
The buildings combine contemporary elegance with a more earthy, grounding atmosphere. Rather than feeling like a generic modern spa, the design has a distinctive character.
The Ayurvedic buildings are raised above the landscape, with wooden Balinese-style archways, Buddha statues and herb gardens adding to the atmosphere. It took me back to my time travelling in Bali.
Inside, floor-level lamps along the long corridors create a soft, atmospheric feeling.
There is a strong connection to nature throughout the design, and I found the overall effect calm without being overly minimalist.

Svata Katerina rooms: what my standard room was like
Svata Katerina offers a range of accommodation options across several buildings, with different room categories to suit different preferences and budgets. Options include standard and superior rooms, premium rooms with terraces overlooking the surrounding landscape, a Premium Junior Suite and a glamping cottage in the forest.
I chose a standard room. It was clean and simple, but it wasn’t quite as peaceful as I would have liked because I could hear people above me. For a normal hotel stay, that might be a minor inconvenience. But when I’m specifically travelling somewhere to rest and switch off, quiet matters.
If having a peaceful room is important to you, I’d recommend looking carefully at the different accommodation categories before booking.
The wider grounds, however, offered plenty of opportunities to find peace and privacy. I visited midweek in June, when the retreat wasn’t particularly busy, and often found myself with the sauna almost entirely to myself, which added to the sense of peace.

Spa, Sauna and Massages
Svata Katerina offers two main wellness approaches: an Ayurvedic programme and a more general spa and wellness programme.
I chose the latter because I wanted to relax without committing to an intensive retreat schedule. It gave me the freedom to choose how I spent my time, which was exactly what I wanted on this visit.
My package included a 30 minute massage each day, use of the sauna and swimming pool. I then topped this up with additional massages that I paid for separately.
The resort offers an extensive menu of massages and bathing treatments, ranging from classical and sports massages to relaxing head and foot massages. There are also more unusual options, including hot lava stone massages, bamboo massage and treatments using warm Himalayan salt stones.
There are also aromatic baths and massages featuring natural Weleda products, with lavender, citrus and arnica options. Some treatments combine a bath and massage, while others focus on relaxation, muscle tension or simply taking time out to be pampered.
The wider wellness facilities include several saunas, a jacuzzi, a rooftop area and a small swimming pool. There are also activities such as outdoor swimming in the natural lake, yoga, Pilates, tennis, horse riding and cycling for those who want to be more active during their stay.
With so many treatments available, there’s plenty of choice whether you’re looking for a traditional massage or a more indulgent spa experience.

Ayurvedic programmes at Svata Katerina
As part of the Kairali Ayurveda Group, Svata Katerina offers Ayurvedic programmes conducted by Indian experts.
There is a choice of packages depending on your interests and needs, including Panchakarma, rejuvenation and relaxation programmes. Other options focus on specific areas, such as women’s wellbeing, back pain and longevity, alongside Ayurvedic yoga and detox.
The Ayurvedic programme has its own pavilion, separate from the rest of the retreat. Guests following the programme receive food plans based on their individual doshas.
I chose the general wellness and spa programme rather than Ayurveda, so I can’t comment on the experience firsthand. However, the range of packages offers another option for those looking for a more Ayurveda-focused stay.

My daily routine at Svata Katerina
My days involved a massage, time in the sauna, walks through the forest and meditation. The massage was wonderfully relaxing, and the therapist was lovely and very professional.
Sometimes, when we think about a wellness retreat, we imagine a packed programme of treatments, classes and activities. However, one of the things I particularly liked about Svata Katerina was being able to choose just a few treatments, leaving plenty of space in my day to slow down, reflect and simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Forest Walks
I loved just walking in the forest. There are so many paths that you can walk for an hour or several, depending on your energy and how much time you have.
I really needed that mental space and freedom,.

The 33 stone circle
One of the most unique features of the grounds is a stone circle made up of 33 stones.
The circle was intentionally created as a space for spiritual development and meditation. The creator of the stone circle is a psychotronist and a prominent Czech expert in landscape energy.
I walked each day into the middle of the circle, sat down and simply experienced the stillness of the space. There was a beautiful energy. It was one of the highlights of the stay for me.
Of course, whether you approach the stone circle from a spiritual perspective is entirely personal. Regardless of your beliefs, it provides another place within the grounds where you can stop, sit and enjoy some quiet.
That sense of stillness was one of the things I appreciated most about Svata Katerina.

Food and dining at Svata Katerina
Breakfast was included with my room price and I also had an evening meal. Both were buffet style and delicious, with plenty of variety and options for different dietary requirements, including vegan dishes. I particularly loved the breakfast!
Is Svata Katerina suitable for solo women?
I visited Svata Katerina alone and felt perfectly at ease as a solo woman.
Part of the appeal was having a break from my busy schedule and the constant interaction that comes with everyday life. I wanted some time to be still, reflect and enjoy my own company.
The retreat gave me that opportunity, with the freedom to walk in the forest, enjoy the wellness facilities and decide how much or how little I wanted to do each day.

Child-free dates and dogs
Svata Katerina offers child-free dates, which you can select on the website. This is useful if you’re looking for a particularly quiet break.
The retreat is also dog-friendly.
Accesibility
Most of the resort is at ground level, but if you have mobility difficulties or specific accessibility needs, I recommend contacting the resort directly to discuss your requirements before booking.

Who Svata Katerina suits
From my experience, Svata Katerina is well suited to anyone who wants to rest, walk and switch off in a peaceful, nature-filled setting.
The choice between a general spa programme and an Ayurvedic one offers different approaches to wellness, so there’s something to suit everyone.
I also think it works well for solo women who enjoy their own company, and the option of child-free dates is useful if a quieter atmosphere is important to you.
The retreat appeals to a range of age groups. During my stay, I met people of all ages, giving the place a varied and welcoming atmosphere.
Is Svata Katerina worth it?
Yes, I felt Svata Katerina was excellent value for money. The grounds just in themselves were a pleasure to spend time and the treatments and facilities were the icing on the cake.
Would I go back?
I arrived wanting to relax and left feeling relaxed and revitalised, which was exactly what I’d hoped for.
Yes, I’d definitely go back.
