The Heart Space – holistic healing in the heart of Penang
The Heart Space in Penang: Yoga, Workshops, Community & Retreats
Updated: March 2026
‘At the Heart Space you feel like you’re coming home to your Self, to what is more authentically true and good for you’ Sarah-Joy Amin (founder of the Heart Space).
The Heart Space in the heart of Penang
The Heart Space is an holistic healing and transformative space on the fabulous island of Penang.
It provides an open-hearted supportive environment in which to find a deeper sense of well-being in a safe, supportive and home-like environment.
A range of holistic therapies are of offer, together with meditation, yoga, group workshops and retreats for nurturing your personal development.

A welcome discovery
I discovered the Heart Space during a three month stay in Penang.
I was searching for a psychotherapist to help me work through some difficult emotions, and I discovered not only a wonderful therapist, Sarah-Joy Amin, the founder of the Heart Space, but also a community of people from all over the world that I had the pleasure of spending time with during various workshops I attended.
The cosy Heart Space
Located close to the Penang Botanical Gardens and Gurney Drive, the Heart Space is situated in a residential condominium.
You take the lift up, take off your shoes outside the door and enter into a homely, cosy, balancing space with three tranquil treatment rooms. Small, but perfect, with beautiful views over the rainforest.

Holistic Counselling & Psychotherapy with Sarah-Joy Amin
I’ve had the pleasure of Holistic Counselling and Psychotherapy with Sarah-Joy for over two years . I began seeing her in person during my time in Penang, and then continued online.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I first visited Sarah-Joy. I knew that I wanted to see a counsellor, but I wasn’t really sure what type I needed. However, I discovered that the holistic counselling that Sarah offers, really works for me.
Holistic counselling takes the entire human being and their experiences into consideration. It treats a person’s physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs in a very integrated way.
This means that during a session, you may begin by discussing the difficulties you’re experiencing and then focus in on the body to feel how those emotions are manifesting themselves somatically. You will then gently work through whatever arises in a very caring supportive manner.
I’ve had some incredibly beautiful, emotional and transformative sessions with Sarah. Each time I have the feeling that I am delving deep into my being, and working through emotions energetically. Each session is very unique. I never quite know where I’m going to go, but I always emerge feeling lighter, more aware and in tune with my body, heart and soul.
I’m sincerely grateful for my inner work with Sarah-Joy.

Sarah-Joy is also a therapist recommended in the Nomadic Wellbeing Services.
Heart Space Workshops
The centre also offers regular workshops on a range of different themes depending on the time of year.
During my time in Penang, I attended a rose heart ritual and meditation, womb healing and Quin Yin meditation and card readings. These group sessions offered a lovely safe supportive space in which to explore emotions, meditate and take part in gorgeous rituals.
You can discover all up and coming workshops here.
Heart Space Retreats
The Heart Space also organises retreats, bringing together yoga, pranayama (breathwork), meditation and sound bathing in beautiful settings with delicious homecooked nourishing food.
Retreats offer participants an opportunity for restorative silent periods, reflective journaling, meditation and more.

Meeting new people
The beauty of Penang and Malaysia as a whole, is that it attracts people from all over the world. Therefore, the group workshops, yoga and meditation sessions are also a way to meet lovely like minded people from all walks of life. I met locals from Penang and expats and travellers from a range of countries.
When I return to Penang, which is one of my favourite places, so I definitely will, I shall look forward to returning to the Heart Space. It holds a special place in my heart.

Suitable for all ages and chronic illness travellers
The Heart Space is a very inclusive space, welcoming all ages and those with chronic health conditions.
